Career :
Started playing basketball with Efes Pilsen at the age of 8, Cenk Akyol played for the club’s cadets and youth teams and then signed his first professional contract with Efes Pilsen in the 2003-04 season. After spending four years with Efes Pilsen, Akyol joined Galatasaray in the 2007-08 season. However, he rejoined Efes Pilsen in the 2008-09 season, signed with Air Avellino of Italy the next season, and has finally rejoined Efes Pilsen again.Cenk Akyol played 26 games in the Beko Basketball League during the last season, averaging 6.2 points, 2.2 rebounds and 0.7 assists. He also played 4 games in the last season’s Turkish Airlines Euroleague, averaging 1.0 points and 0.5 assists per game.
Akyol was selected by Atlanta Hawks in the 2005 NBA draft. He won the Turkish League championship title in the 2003-04, 2004-05 and 2008-09 seasons, the Turkish Cup title in the 2005-06, 2006-07 and 2008-09 seasons, and the Presidential Cup in the both the 2006 and 2009 seasons as a member of Efes Pilsen.Akyol made significant contribution to the Senior National Team in winning the silver medal in the 2010 World Basketball Championship which was hosted by Turkey.He also played for the Senior National Team during the 2011 European Basketball Championship.
